Organic Neem

Neem (Azadirachta indica) has long been revered in Ayurveda for its many beneficial uses and has gained popularity in the wider world of herbal health products in more recent years.

About the Neem Tree

Sometimes known as nimtree, neem is a hearty, fast-growing evergreen tree well known for its drought resistance. The neem tree matures into a large shade tree with a dense, round canopy and can live for 150–200 years.

In India, the neem tree is highly respected and commonly sought after for its traditional health-promoting as well as practical everyday uses. It can be found growing all over India as well as the southern regions of Asia.

Almost every part of the tree can be harvested and used. Neem leaf, neem bark, and even the fruits and seeds of the powerful neem plant are commonly made into wellness products to benefit the skin, hair, nails, and so much more. At Banyan, we use neem leaves in our products.

What Is Neem Used For?

While neem has several uses, it may be most famous its incredible effects for skin health. In Ayurveda, neem is recognized as having a bitter and cooling quality, which helps soothe excess heat in the liver and blood. As a result, the skin also benefits from greater clarity and purity.

Beyond the skin, neem has traditionally been used to benefit for hair health, the immune system, and much more. It can be taken internally or used topically—such as using neem oil for skin care that is natural and effective.

In recent years, phytochemical screening of neem bark has shown it to contain a number of beneficial chemical constituents, including alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, terpenoids, and polyphenols.1
