What Is Guggulu?

Guggulu is the common name for the flowering mukul myrrh tree. Also known as the Indian bdellium-tree, it is a small, thorny tree in the Burseraceae family that is commonly found in arid climates of India. It may also be found under the names guggul, gugal, or gugul.

Guggulu also refers to the resinous substance formed from the sap of the guggul tree. Renowned for its cleansing and rejuvenating properties, this myrrh resin is highly prized in Ayurvedic medicine and used to enhance health in several areas of the body.

Health Benefits of Guggulu

From an Ayurvedic perspective, guggulu helps to balance all three doshas—vata, pitta, and kapha. This can vary depending on how it is formulated and combined with other herbs.
