How To Use

Take ¼ to ½ teaspoon with warm water, once or twice daily, or as directed by your health practitioner.

The only additional concerns would involve if you are taking medications, or have a medical condition, we advise consulting your health care professional before using our products. Aside from the cautionary conditions we have noted, then this product is well-suited for ongoing daily use as it is rejuvenating and balancing for all constitutional types, especially for Vata dosa.

Is this product have a standardized percentage of sapponins?

Banyan Botanicals does not standardize because we believe in using the whole herb. We do not currently test for the level of active ingredients.

What is the traditional ayurvedic use of this, as an extract or raw powder? What's the difference between the two from an ayurvedic perspective? Can this be used before bed without disturbing sleep? It cools inflammatory conditions of the genitourinary systems, correct? Thanks!

We only carry gokshura in powder form. In general, the traditional way of taking herbs is in powder form. However, there is not an efficacy difference between tablet, powder, or liquid extract form. Tablets require more from the digestive system, compared to powders, but are convenient to consume. You can also chew the tablets, or suck on them before swallowing, as from an ayurvedic standpoint, taste is the first step in digestion. Liquid extracts flow directly in to the blood stream, bypassing the GI tract. Taking herbs to effect the lower part of the body are often taken before meals, but more importantly, taking them at a consistent and convenient time is favorable. Gokshura soothes the urinary tract membranes and promotes healthy urination. Its energetics is cooling on the body.

is this powder composed of the entire fruit, seeds and all? and are there known side effects?

Yes, this powder is made from the whole fruit, which does contain seeds. Gokshura is a known diuretic and it is not recommended during pregnancy because it moves energy downward.
