There seems To be some controversy lately about licorice root. It's been hard to find for a while. But it's a very useful Cooling and moistening herb. There are some body types that have to be careful with it but it is extremely beneficial for other body types.

Package has hole

Good product but the package has a hole when received although it was shipped with bubble envelope, so lots od product was spilled out.

What is the difference between the licorice root powder you sell vs DGL licorice in health food stores? Is licorice in its pure form harmful?

In Ayurveda, it is traditional to use the properties of the whole plant. That is why we don't standardize our herbs for individual constituents. Licorice contains an element or constituent called glycyrrhizin. Research has indicated that when over-used or taken in excess, glycyrrhizin can contribute to high blood pressure. Licorice root, in its whole form, is very safe. This herb would have to be taken in excessive amounts, to pose any issues.

Deglycyrrhizinated or DGL licorice involves a process in which the constituent is chemically removed from the root. Some companies market this standardized version as an alternative.

Is the color really green? I think it should be natural sandy.

Our organic Licorice is 100% root powder. The appearance of organic herbs can vary on occasion and from lot to lot, depending on the weather conditions (drought or rain) and soil in the region.

You state that licorice helps remove excess Kapha from the lungs but in Doshas you state that it may increase Kapha when used in excess. Isn't that contradictory?

Ayurveda teaches us to balance elevated or aggravated doshas by counterbalancing with the use of dietary and lifestyle choices that have opposing energetics. Our Licorice root powder's unctuous property helps to moisten vata and liquefy kapha, promoting healthy expectoration and clear breathing. This balance is achieved within our carefully considered suggested use of the herb's energetics, including the rasa (taste), virya (action), and vipaka (post-digestive effect). If taken in excess, it is possible to upset the subtle balance by overdoing with consuming too much of the herb's oily properties, as well as the sweet and cooling energetics that can end up aggravating kapha.
