ANCIENT ALLY FOR MASSAGE
Calamus is a fragrant herb with an ability to promote a sense of calm and serenity. It is a common ingredient in massage oils and is often used externally during panchakarma or after self-massage, thanks to its external benefits for the skin and nervous system, as well as its practical function of helping to remove excess oil.

CLEANSING & LIGHT
When used externally, calamus supports the natural process of cleansing the skin with its light, sharp, and heating properties. In Ayurveda, these qualities are believed to counteract the characteristics of natural toxins, which are considered heavy, slow, and cold. It can also be used in nasya oil to support mental clarity and heightened awareness.*

Banyan Botanical products have changed my life. Every single product I try is a keeper. The Nyasa Oil helps me sleep at night. It moisturizes my sinuses and helps me feel calm and refreshed upon waking. I live at high altitude - in a dry climate. The Nyasa Oil keeps my son from getting bloody noses. Thank you for your amazing and high quality oils.
Controversial Calamus Root
I use this powder to wash off the oil I apply daily in my entire body (Abhyanga). I like to avoid using soap.
I use this as an exfoliater after a full body rub of sesame oil plus after applying sesame oil on my face, i use the calamus powder and rub it in and i really feel it does the job. A quick wash and you have a nice mild lingering smell. Reminds me of babies in Malaysia post Indian baths.

I absolutely love this Calamus. I've found it's warming, centering and grounding effects to be very helpful at the end of a long day, before or after my meditation. For me, it seems to help keep the awareness from getting too attached to a thought/emotion.
Thank you for your review. Just for clarity, we would remind you of the following: The use of calamus (Acorus calamus) in foods is prohibited in the United States by the FDA. Whether or not it can be used as an ingredient in a dietary supplement is not clear. In the 70's and '80s, studies demonstrating carcinogenic activity in animals were conducted with rodents fed or injected massive doses of beta-asarone. The Indian variety of calamus contains beta-asarone and was subsequently banned from use in foods in the United States. Pending clarification on this issue, Banyan's bulk calamus powder is not for human consumption.
