Supports my comfort!

I love Boswellia, this special resin takes 8 years for plant to produce and I can't live without it added to my chai. This makes my joints comfortable and keeps me young!

Misleading & Overpriced

I’ve been ordering Boswellia from many different suppliers over the years and have never been so disappointed. The product and it’s package clearly says “Boswellia Serratta” with no mention of any mixture, until you turn the package over and in tiny print under the “supplement facts” it mentions “other ingredients: rice hull concentrate”. No mention is made of how much rice hull concentrate is in it, but the product looks clearly dirty with something. I don’t know if they are trying to cover up the impurities; possibly a lot of bark in the product, but I find this dishonest in any case. I ordered Boswellia Serratta and that’s what I expected, and that’s what was advertised. That would have been bad all by itself, but the product is way overpriced anyway. A clean, organic pound goes for half this much anywhere else.

Thank you for your review Deborah. We're very sorry to hear the boswellia was not what you were expecting! Because boswellia is a hard sticky resin, it is difficult to turn into a powdered form—we use natural rice hull concentrate as a flowing agent to keep the resin from conglomerating back into dense, solid chunks. We use the smallest amount of rice hull possible for this purpose and list this ingredient on the product page. That said, we understand your disappointment and greatly value your feedback! Please keep an eye out for an email from us, as we will be reaching out to make this right with you.

Boswellia powder

Found the taste quite pleasant, though even in warm water it did clump slightly.

Thank you for sharing your experience. As Boswellia is a resin, it does have a tendency to clump. You can use a grinder dedicated to herbs or simply a coffee bean grinder. Even some people have reported using their blender. Hope this helps!

grounding and soothing

I like the earthy taste, you must dissolve it in hot water add a little juice and drink it down. It can be a little gritty, smaller amounts a few times a day is very doable.

Bosweillia Powder

Without a lab it is impossible to tell the exact composition, however the look, texture and taste are appropriate for the product purchased. The price was within range and service would rate very high.

Boswellia

I put about 1/4 tsp in just boiled water. It does not dissolve, but the aromatics adds magic to the water. Water tastes pure. I keep on adding water all day long, sometimes a little more Boswellia.

Hard to swallow

I don't mind the smell or even the taste, but no matter how I attempt to take this, the texture gets me every time. It's grainy like sand. It doesn't dissolve in warm/hot liquid. I find the best way to get it down is to just put it on a spoon and chase it with water, juice, tea, coffee or whatever you have in your hand. As for the medicinal benefits. I have not noticed any thus far. I am taking it once or twice a day as I remember to take it. I get one dose in the morning on an empty stomach with water for sure, then another later in the day if I remember to do it.

Hi Tracy! Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Because Boswellia is a resin it is difficult to dissolve. Mixing with hot water and stirring will help soften the resin, making it easier to drink. Any remaining residue will be soft and easy to chew. You can also try warm milk or almond milk. You might try leaving it in the warm water for longer before drinking to give the heat a little longer to help soften the resin.

Hi there how much Boswellia powder should I take for joint symptoms? Is there a maximum period for safe taking? Thanks Susie

Rachel Euell

Due to the fact that we are not practitioners and are regulated by the FDA, we are unable to speak to medical conditions of any kind. We recommend working with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner or trusted healthcare professional to receive the most qualified and individualized guidance possible. That said, the general recommended dosage for boswellia is ¼ to ½ teaspoon with warm water, once or twice daily, or as directed by your health practitioner. There is not a maximum period for taking boswellia.

Olga

Hello, I would like to order Boswell .... with a long shelf life ..... is there such an opportunity? Thank you, Olga..

Rachel Euell

Thank you for your question! We do not state an expiration date on our bulk herbs. In general, herbs are at their highest potency at the time of harvest and will slowly degrade over time. If kept in airtight containers and out of direct sunlight, they can remain usable for many years. However, for best results, we suggest using our bulk herbs within two years of purchase.

Can this powder be dissolved in oil and used as a body oil? What is the percent of rice hulls in this powder?

Rachel Euell

Yes, you could certainly infuse a base oil with the powder to make a massage oil. For details on the process, you might consider consulting Dr. Vasant Lad's The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies for details and directions.

Our boswelia powder contains 20% organic rice hull concentrate (flowing agent) due to the fact that boswellia is a resin that is difficult to turn into powdered form. Banyan Botanicals adds the lowest amount of organic rice hull concentrate as a flowing agent to lessen the hard and grainy quality of the resin.

hello, i currently have a mild wrist inflammation and would like to try Boswellia.

However I have a Pitta /Vata imbalance and have heard that this herb can aggravate Vata.

Can you confirm?

Rachel Euell

Our Boswellia resin powder has a virya or action that is heating and cooling. While it is balancing for all doshas, it might increase vata and pitta if taken in excess. As we always recommend that you stay within the suggested use, you could start with the minimum amount, assess how you feel, and then adjust accordingly.

As we are not practitioners and due to the fact that we are regulated by the FDA, we are not able to speak to medical conditions of any kind. We recommend that you work with a qualified, Ayurvedic or healthcare practitioner, to help determine the best course of action for you.

In a response to an earlier question you stated ice cream is not recommended as a mixing agent for the resin as it slows digestion. It has also been stated that ghee is a good mixing agent. Since ghee is a dairy fat how does it differ from ice cream as a method of ingesting the resin? Thank you.

Rachel Euell

Great question, Joe! In Ayurveda, different foods are recognized as having different properties and characteristics, even if they fall into the same category of foods, such as dairy products or grains. Ghee is nourishing, clarifying, and very easy for the body to digest, whereas ice cream is considered heavy, dense, and difficult to digest. Not to mention it comes with a load of processed sugar!
