What makes Healthy Bones different from a typical calcium supplement?

Coral calcium is a naturally occurring source of calcium that also contains trace minerals that improve the bioavailability of the calcium compared to other calcium supplements. It comes from a coral reef.

A coral reef is made up by colonies of sea anemone-like creatures called polyps. These individual organisms take in minerals from the ocean that they then deposit as a type of hard crystalline structure—coral calcium. Yes. Banyan's coral calcium is ethically and sustainably sourced. Instead of harvesting from living reefs, which can come with many environmental implications, we use coral calcium from old fossilized coral from ancient reefs that are no longer active and have been naturally pushed above sea level.

Is Healthy Bones vegetarian or vegan?

Coral calcium originates from fossilized coral, which is essentially the exoskeleton of the sea anemone-like creatures called polyps. Because this comes from a once-living creature, Healthy Bones is not considered vegan and may not be suitable for all vegetarians.

That said, some vegans and vegetarians may feel okay about using coral calcium, with the understanding that it is harvested long after the living creatures have died naturally, and with no interference to their natural habitat. I have a pitta/vata constitution, and these calcium tablets are easy to digest and don't bother my stomach at all. I also like the fact that the calcium is from natural coral (not manufactured in a lab) so they won't cause kidney stones. And it is also much easier to swallow two smaller pills and one large one. Great calcium supplement.
