Ayurvedic Energetics:
1. What is curcumin, and how is it related to turmeric?
Curcumin is a naturally occurring chemical constituent in turmeric.
2. How much curcumin is in your turmeric?
The amount of curcumin in our turmeric powder is approximately 3 percent. The concentration can vary from season to season depending on environmental conditions such as sunlight, water, and heat.
3. Do I need to take black pepper with turmeric to help with absorption?
It is not necessary to take black pepper with turmeric. The absorption of turmeric only becomes an issue if you are taking an isolated extract of turmeric like curcumin. Much of the research concerning turmeric’s absorbability is specific to extracted curcumin, which on its own has low bioavailability.
Banyan turmeric is made from the whole turmeric root with all the plant’s constituents, including curcumin, in their naturally occurring proportions. In its natural state, turmeric is easily absorbed by the body.
That said, black pepper and turmeric do combine well and are often found together in traditional formulations. Turmeric and black pepper are both ingredients in our Joint Support and Immune Support.
