How has Ayurveda changed your life?
I’ve been incorporating Ayurvedic principles, including a daily meditation and yoga asana practice, into my life since 1996. I feel Ayurveda has impacted my life on every level. I rely on the fundamentals and concepts of Ayurveda to keep in optimal health and centeredness to function in my busy life.
Which Banyan products are you currently using and why?
Breast Balm, Chyavanprash, Mental Clarity, Everyday Greens, Ashwagandha Bala Oil, Mahanarayan Oil, Lavender Soap, I Travel Well when I travel, Ghee, and the Kitchari Kit.
When are you most likely to go out of balance and how do you bring yourself back in balance using Ayurveda?
During the vata time of year I take care to keep warm and on a steady routine and do self- massage (abhyanga) to keep my over-active nervous system calm and smooth. In the pitta-time of year I make sure to stay cool and eat cooling foods at regular times to keep my inner fire balanced and emotions harmonious. I also love to do self-massage with Mahanarayan Oil for my sore muscles or Ashwagandha Bala oil for its strengthening and vitalizing effects when dancing regularly.
Traveling is one of my favorite things to do but also can throw me quickly out of balance. I use I Travel Well now, whenever I take a trip. It keeps me calm, comfortable and on track despite the vata imbalancing effects of flying, irregular routine and eating that accompany the joys of traveling. Mental Clarity keeps me clear and focused when things become hectic.
Favorite place in the world?
My favorite place to be is the beach or a dance studio.
I love to read and am usually reading several books at once. Right now I’m reading Maya Tiwari’s book Ayurveda Secrets of Healing and Returning to Health with Dance, Movement and Imagery by Anna Halprin.
Who inspires you?
People from all walks of life who are passionate about what they are doing inspire me, especially if they are using their unique, personal gifts to serve humanity and the planet.
