Christine flew away from Ashland, Oregon, for Kauai, Hawaii, when she was 18 years old. There, she worked in an herbal store where she learned about herbs and a healthy lifestyle. Later, she returned to her hometown to raise her children. She was introduced to yoga in her early 20s, earned her yoga teacher certification, and has been practicing Bikram yoga for the past 13 years. Today, she is committed to her children’s happiness, and in the future plans on flying or sailing away to all the countrysides in her dreams.

How has Ayurveda changed your life?

It has brought a healthy routine to my life. It’s made me more aware of how we are our best healer when we bring awareness to our own bodies. I love that as I learn more about Ayurveda, I can share what I learn with my family. When I’m consistent with my daily routine—including pranayama, abhyanga, and selected ayurvedic herbs—I am able to maintain a healthy balance in my life, physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Which Banyan products are you currently using and why?

I use Mahanarayan Oil consistently for aches and pains as a result of a serious car accident several years ago. Brahmi Oil in a coconut base calms my pitta and helps me to enjoy a restful sleep. I resonate the most with arjuna, because of its ability to mend a broken heart and open my heart to the people in my life and life itself. I also use Healthy Bones to keep them strong, and Nasya Oil during the dry months for lubricating the nasal passages and heightening my awareness.

When are you most likely to go out of balance and how do you bring yourself back in balance using Ayurveda?

I go out of balance at the end of summer, when it is hot and dry in Southern Oregon. I bring myself back into balance by focusing on slowing my life down and trying not to take too much on. I am sure to regain balance by being consistent with my daily routine and using Brahmi internally, as well as externally with abhyanga. I incorporate more Yin Yoga into my practice, while also doing pranayama, eating cooling berries and veggies, and drinking cucumber water.

I’m truly in love with all of Kauai—it’s where my heart resides. Kōkeʻe is like being home. Pine trees like Oregon with the delicious tropical air.
