Yogi, mystic, practitioner of Ayurveda and founder/director of Dancing Shiva Yoga Ayurveda, an international non-profit educational organization based in southern California. His teachings are based on the lineage of Paramahansa Yogananda, founder of Self Realization Fellowship, and Mas is also featured in the triumphant film Awake, The Life Of Yogananda. His first book Sun, Moon & Earth was released in 2016 and he continues to offer many certification programs in USA, Asia, and India and as an Ayurvedic practitioner he maintains an active clinical practice.

How were you introduced to Ayurveda?

Through a family friend whom I considered my West Coast mom when I first moved to California after graduating from college.

How has Ayurveda changed your life?

It has taught me how to live more harmoniously with nature. Ayurveda shows us the way to spirit through nature. I have learned and now experience that nature is not a separate thing, it is living inside of me and how I relate to, and live in this world is a reflection of the relationship my mind has with this “thing” we call a body. Body and nature are one, mind-body and nature are one and ultimately Spirit and Nature are One!

Which Banyan product(s) are your currently using and why?

Triphala Guggulu – For a few reasons, triphala is excellent for bowel regularity and this is especially difficult when traveling (which I do a lot of). The other important factor is the gum resin ingredient called guggulu, which is excellent for asana yogi’s (postural yoga) and is good for supporting healthy joints and all connective tissue functionality.

When are you most likely to go out of balance and how do you bring yourself back in balance using Ayurveda?

Weather (dry, windy) has a dramatic affect on my doshas and for me the most effective means of restoring balance is to perform a thorough and complete daily routine (dinacharya) that includes self-massage, neti cup, exercise, breath work, meditation and prayer, and three well prepared and properly seasoned meals according to the season. Lastly…early to bed and early to rise… always keeps me healthy and wise.

Favorite place in the world?

My favorite place is abiding in the spiritual heart. When you are connected to your heart, every place in this world is “favorite.”
