SOOTHING, WARMING, AND CALMING BLEND
Vata brings the qualities of cold, light, and dry, and in excess, these qualities inhibit proper digestive function and create discomfort after eating, like gas, bloating, and hard stools. This classical Ayurvedic formula of herbs and spices, including ajamoda, cumin, and ginger, has been traditionally used to calm and balance vata while it warms and soothes digestion.*

Soothing aroma
I just received my order yesterday and tried this for the first time. I added a teaspoon to vegetables covered in tomato sauce. WOW! Absolutely delicious.
I have been using this powder now for quite a few years having gratefully been led to it by a woman I met briefly one day. It has been a staple in our kitchen ever since. I use it in just about every meal I make from hot meals to salads - sprinkled on avocado with olive oil it is amazing. I am vata vata with nothing else in between and I have no idea as to how my body would be without it as its not something I have ever been able to accurately measure. But I LOVE this product and with all the nourishing herbs thats are in it, it has to be good. I also add it to homemade coriander and parsley pesto it is amazing! Banyan Botanicals are also a most gracious company to deal with. So thanks and gratitude all round!
I have used this product to promote good digestion for at least a year and I can highly recommend it to anyone. I use 2 small half tsp mixed with water daily and never have any digestion issues. It's made of herbs so no side affects at all. Most people have digestion issues so this is your answer!
I bought this almost a month ago and hesitated since I'm hypersensitive to medications, food and supplements. One dose on my morning chicken today and Wow! I love the flavor and it really helped my digestion. This was recommended to me by my Rheumy and I wish I hadn't waited so long to try it.

I enjoy the flavor and benefits of hingvastak, both for adding to a glass of water after a meal and sprinkling on home made popcorn for flavor.

I like eating baked veggies as weather cools, and tend to sprinkle sea salt ~ was recommended to try Hingvstak powder instead, and it's good for digestion* yay*

I have to admit: I’m a bit obsessed with Hingvastak. In the best way possible. I looked at this blend online for a while, as I’m Vata primarily and have distinct Vata digestive issues. But I didn’t purchase it. Then I went out of town and saw a small jar at a health food store and decided to get it. I was incredibly curious what it smelled and tasted like so I opened it in the car on our drive home from the store and WOW!! The smell is tantalizing, the taste is complex and wonderful. It reminds me of like a lemon pepper seasoning. It’s salty, it’s pungent, it’s just awesome. I used this all weekend on everything I ate(salmon, rice, veggies, beef) and it goes great with it all! And my digestion was fantastic that weekend, and is when I consume this regularly. I love this stuff so much. I literally put it on everything I eat now, because it taste just so dang good, and it’s so beneficial. If you have classic Vata digestive issues like gas and bloating and you like to add yummy spices to your food, I highly highly highly recommend this Hingvastak blend. I don’t want to be without this stuff. I will even eat a small spoonful with some Triphala, or on its own, if I’m having any digestive issues and I feel better quite quickly. I plan on buying it by the pound from now on. Praise be to Hingvastak! Thank you for making this, Banyan Botanicals!
Thanks for your stellar review Ari!
I prefer the ease of the Vata Digest:tm: tablets. I didn’t mind the last of the powder but it’s hard to take in the morning!
Thank you for your feedback! When it comes to convenience, we completely understand your preference. You might try sprinkling a little Hingvastak on savory foods in the morning, as an alternative to mixing it in water.
I have digestion issues if I over eat or eat too fast so I use this wonderful product when needed called hingvastak! I always have it on hand cause it really works!
Both really great products !
It's delicious. Highly recommend!
Finally! My seemingly insatiable (until now) Vata driven salt cravings have been pacified. For years, I've been eating multiple bags of Sea Salt & Vinegar Kettle chips - the only thing I could find that came close to satiating my salt cravings. Living in the dry desert Southwest and working a physically demanding job vitiate my already high Vata. I remember hearing years ago that Hing can almost instantly pacify Vata. But Hing, especially a reliable source, is difficult to obtain. I am elated that Banyan now offers Hingvastak. My salt cravings were immediately reduced....perhaps my cravings weren't actually for salt, but rather the pungent hing flavor? After only two days of use, I also notice improvements in my digestion. HingVastak is a must-have for anyone with a Vata dominant constitution.
This is the perfect spice blend for soup, stew, dhal, kitchari, etc. Just sprinkle a little on the top and digest-easy! My husband LOVES it. It's well rounded and tasty. Not too pungent, but just enough. Love it. Addicted. ;-)
I've been waiting for my order 35 days. I am disappointed :-(
Hi Alexander,
Sorry to hear you've had such a difficult time receiving your package. According to the tracking information, your local post office attempted to deliver the package 6 days ago.We suggest contacting them since it appears that they have your package. Please know that international orders can often take a while to ship since they have to go through customs and various processes. We hope you are able to track down your post office and receive your items soon!
I use this every day as a digestion aid.
Your product are consistently fresh and prana-filled.
Hey, you used to carry an asofetida powder without rice.
I think it was a fenugreek base - no grains.
I could really use that for my fasting day meals on Ekadasi.
Can you mix some up for me? In service, Celia
Hi Celia, we're so glad to hear that the Hingvastak powder is working for you! Our Hingvastak is cut with fenugreek, not rice. We don't carry straight asafoetida, but wish you the best of luck in finding a good source for some!
It is a good product. I thought it is more stronger
I really like this product. It tastes so good to me and I really feel how it helps my digestion. I use it regularly. Thank you Banyan Botanicals.
I love the taste of this mix of spices. It is also supposed to help bloating and excess vata. I'm not sure if it helps but it tastes great and doesn't hurt!

i must have misread but i thought the hingvastak would be mostly hing, so if you’re looking for just hing this isn’t the product for you.
Thank you for your review. The ingredients for Himgvastak are Cumin seed (Cuminum cyminum)+, Ajamoda seed (Apium graveolens)+, Black Cumin seed (Nigella sativa)+, Black Pepper fruit (Piper nigrum)+, Ginger root (Zingiber officinale)+, Pippali fruit (Piper longum)+, Mineral Salt, Asafoetida/hing (Ferula asafoetida), Fenugreek (Triognella foenum-graecum)+. Asafoetida/hing is late in the list and so is present in relatively small proportion.
Excellent customer service
Hello,
Is this product Gluten-free? I heard once that Hing is processed with wheat?
Thank you!
Kari
To the best of our knowledge, Banyan Botanicals' bulk herbs are free of gluten, soy, and dairy. The machines used to powder the herbs are only used to powder herbs and spices. However, we work with dozens and dozens of small farms and it is likely that some of them would be growing nuts, barley, oats, and wheat. The machines are all certified according to NOP and EU organic regulations regarding clean downs, batch to batch documentation, etc.
Is Hing in this product the same as asafoetida? Why do you carry this product and not asafoetida?
Yes, hing is another name for asafoetida. We do not offer bulk asafoetida because we have yet to locate an organic source, which is why our Kitchari Spice Mix is 97% organic.
How many servings are in the spice jar size and 1/2 lb size?
The Hingvastak spice jar contains approximately 30 (1/2tsp) servings and the 1/2lb contains approximately 96 (1/2tsp servings).
How much salt (sodium) is in Hingvastak?
Hi Ana! There are approximately 64 milligrams of sodium in one half teaspoon serving of Hingvastak.
Is your Hing gluten free?
Hi Mike, thank you for your question! To the best of our knowledge, our bulk herbs, tablets, and food items are free of gluten, soy, and dairy. The machines used to powder the herbs are only used to powder herbs and spices.
